Question, and I apologize if asked before(I looked but did not seeing anything): Prior to playing Cruella, Paul says they were "totally got tricked into doing". Anyone know the backstory? In the pamphlet it mentions they actually were on a compilation album and I managed to find a link to it. Can't find much else. Paul seemed to say that with some sarcasm I thought.

I recall it was a Disney comp.Has to be some Paul sarcasm here. Just wanted to point out in a recent interview with Natt Wolff there was another mention of a trouble boys movie. Maybe if Bob Mehr scans this forum occasionally he can comment on whether this is conjecture or a real project? Sounds pretty cool if it is!

Is there a shirt with the Dead Man's Pop cover on it? Add it to the collection. It’s awesome.

I recall it was a Disney comp.Has to be some Paul sarcasm here. I believe the compilation was called "Stay Awake" and featured various artists covering Disney classics. I have it around here somewhere. Pretty nice little box set of three or four CD's. I think Tom Waits did "Hi Ho"...They did this when I saw them on the DTAS tour, and I believe made a nearly identical intro. Must not have been too sore of a spot, because they kept performing it, and I think broke it out on the reunion tours...

Quite honestly, I would be one happy Mats fan if they just released a video/album of the Midway show. That is all I am looking for at this point. What a night, what a show.

From what I hear the video was edited for release and then indefinitely shelved by the band. Things change, who knows, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that one.
I'd gladly take that, but I'd prefer a really well made documentary and/or DVD set of live stuff from the 80s/90s. And the DMP treatment to Tim.

“They’re Blind” might’ve been my least favorite Replacements song before. But now... Slim’s guitar! What the fuck was Chris Lord-What’s-Name thinking? Haha touché! What a transformation. What other songs are standing out to you all? I miss the typewriter and morse code intro of "We'll Inherit the Earth," but I love the "want it want it want it" and "on it on it on it" ad libs that were buried or cut from the original. Kinda miss the middle bridge (?) section with Paul mumbling about whales, too. The added lyrics at the end ("it ain't never gonna happen!") are telling... Jury still out on the reimagined tracklist? Think I still prefer the original after all. Loved how the record ended on "Darlin' One." Just gave that song I kind of epic gravitas that I miss. I think "I'll Be You" might have made for a great opener... Sorry for the long response time, my friend! I was traveling when I first read your response and didn’t realize you’d asked me a question (thanks for asking!) So, DTAS has always been a sentimental favorite of mine. I was 14 when it came out and that is the album where I discovered them. With that said, as the years went on, I really only ever listened to it for nostalgia. I haven’t been able to stop listening to this new mix! I always liked Darlin’ One but I’m loving the way the intro sounds now. And Tommy’s more pronounced backing vocals. I appreciated the rowdiness of I Won’t before, but it always sounded kinda odd to me. I’m loving how honky tonk the DMP version is. This album has gone from something I dusted off for a trip down 9th grade memory lane, to maybe being my favorite... A bold statement I know, but goddamn, I wasn’t exaggerating, I can’t stop listening to it.

I bought it cause of the Mats, but it has several nice covers from a slew of great musicians.

Here's mine, haven't pulled this out in years. I have seen the band play Cruella de Ville a couple of times.

Add me to the chorus of approval. LOVE this set. I enjoy the original DTAS quite a bit, but this is a great take as well. The bonus stuff is fantastic too. I love the Bearsville stuff and having the complete Inconcerated is worth the whole thing!

Remix Tim next! Make the drums sound like real drums from the 70's or the 90's (but not the 80's).
That's the only other album in need of a remix (although more bonus or live stuff is always appreciated). There I said it.

Trashed my ripped copies of Don't Tell A Soul in my computers, tablet, and phone. Replaced them with Dead Man's Pop, Disc 1. Still not my most favorite Mats album, but it is now so much more listenable.

damn, there goes my prediction of it beating out DTAS' debut at #150 they should have titled DMP Abbey Road instead .... it worked for Let It Be, right?

Alright, I have to confess, I did not have any intention of buying this. My general feeling is that re-releases are just money grabs for the labels, and don’t provide that much more from the original (and I’m a cheap ass ). However, the raves here, and hearing the song on The Current, got to me. Today is my short day, so I went over to downtown Long Beach after work and visited Fingerprints record store. It’s a personal favorite which reminds me of my youth flipping through discs and tapes for hours. Tommy has played in-stores there. I got the boxed set, Wilco’s new disc, and lusted over the Ramones “It’s Alive” boxed set, which was the second punk record I ever bought. All I have listened to is most of the first disc, but holy shit, it just glistens compared to the original. They’re Blind was kind of off putting before, now it’s warm and special. F Lord Algae and the suits who ruined the original! Kinda sad that it’ll be missed by most but us super fans.
