Been listening to it all day, it's been the 22nd for a while here in Australia. I absolutely love it!! Makes me happy, rock out, sad, hopeful and just about everything else. Fucking brilliant.

Just bought the MP3 record off of Amazon this morning and plan on playing this sucker over and over. So far impressions are positive. The rev'ed up version of Born For Me is a stand-out but there are some good-fun songs on this record.
Other songs that stuck with me: Dance to the Fight Love out Loud Kissing Break Need the Guys

So there isn't a CD even though I pre-ordered it on CD from Amazon?
One of our local radio stations did a little preview/review of it, and unfortunately they couldn't get past the production quality to even talk about the songs. It was just a lot of, "Is there something wrong with my headphones," "Why does it sound like that?" "Is the guitar supposed to be in one channel?" etc.

I'm celebrating the album's release a bit. I've been snowed in from work for the day and the beers are flowing. It's great to hear some new material from PW, isn't it? I'm still hung up on "Back". It seems like the perfect opener to this album and also like he's hitting on a new feeling for his songwriting and introducing the album at the same time.
This album reminds me a lot of 49:00, so far, with a great deal of variety. "Hands Together" also really sticks out to me as completely original to his catalog and a new classic.
Overall, I'm just really happy that there is another album out there! It's been too long and this seems like a highlight.

Funny, I had a similar day, I ended up staying home sick from work and have listened to it a handful of times. I also agree "Back" and "Hands Together" are both excellent and so fitting to open and close the record. I was also actually real happy to hear some familiar tunes "Out Of My System" is a great song, King of America, Born for Me.. Did you watch the interview with Peter Wolf yet? He talks a bit about where the songs came from- sounds like they are mostly from the past few years. Actually they might've been all erased and recorded over (and lost forever) if Juliana hadn't sort of saved him from himself. The guy has been in his basement recording so much stuff for years that has gone unreleased.. and he is now just erasing and recording over it. Paul also mentions wishing he had done a few more records with her before releasing this one... I hope more of the goldmine comes to light!!! Really hoping they do some shows too, fingers crossed!

I like the record quite a bit. Love that there's more structure and a more complete effort than the download stuff, love hearing Juliana all over it, love the songs and the energy and the rawness. Seems like what would have been a logical next step after the 2002-2004 stuff. Still pining for a real drummer (and maybe just a little more polish), but great to hear a new collection of songs. A fantastic start to what is shaping up to be a great year for new music.

If it's true that some of these songs were potential Replacements songs from the reunion, I feel that "Need the Guys" and "Love Out Loud" have to be two of them. It sounds like a throwback to Tim era Mats.
Maybe hope for Wild Stab part 2 for 2017? If not, a leak of those Replacements sessions would work.

Definitely sounds like more to come. Paul even said something in the interview about being backed up on songs and "now that he cleaned out the basement a little " theres room to write some new ones .

Two-listen review: I love some of the songs (Back, Hands Together, Need the Guys). Like the rest. Miss the "live room" sounds and interaction that a small ensemble of musicians would produce if recording together. A few passes-through might also help edit some of the clunkier arrangements. Maybe we get that on "Another Stab"? Stirratt and Freese must have an empty afternoon together, yeah? Finally, recall that on the '05 tour "Born for Me" was sometimes introduced as part 1 of a story that led into "High Time."

Digging the album, but really had my fingers crossed for a recorded version of the watering can song. Anybody know anymore about what happened to that song?

This record is flat out terrific imo, I like every song and love several, plus it sounds good/better than his other basement stuff and flows really well. It also has a theme that connects it, it doesn't seem as random or frustrating as 49:00 which I know a lot of people love but I find hard to listen to.
I have no problem saying this is 14 Songs, Mono or CFMT level - my previous favorites from his solo work.
Hands Together should be added into the "Dylanesque" thread and I'm thinking there are some great Westy one liners on this thing - I hope I'm not hearing this wrong but in Whole Lotta Nothin' (one of the best tracks imo) I think he says "I'm an icon/Everybody hit delete", which is a great line using the double meaning of icon (as in a computer icon to click on and being a legend) and his usual beautiful loser/self-deprecating kind of thing.

I have that same line stuck in my head all day. I am hearing it the same as you and I think its pretty clever. The favorites seem to keep changing as I listen - which 14 songs does for me to this day - probably a sign of this record being on my best-of list.

That line stuck out to me as maybe a reaction to the press (internet specifically) that the Replacements reunion received. Like he's remarking about the triviality of the moment back in the spotlight. Especially with the double meaning of icon, like you pointed out. They received so much widespread attention for a while there. I feel like "Little People" might be about thanking the fans way back in the crowd who came out the festivals shows but I could be totally off. I haven't paid as much attention to the lyrics on that one yet... Who knows, just one mans guess.
