well, remember, ...'you got em all, on your walls, I'm the last of a dying breed..you ain't got me!' ha! Good one! I'm late to the conversation, but I'll say that I'm not enamored either with the Hall. That said, seeing or knowing that some of these old blues and early pioneers are getting some recognition that they mattered is fine with me. I believe even Neil Young said in a Guitar Player interview prior to his induction, that after all these pioneers and honoring the early days of rock, they ought to shut it down and seal it up for awhile. He said that stuff is touching, seeing the old bluesmen or early R&B folks getting recognized, but otherwise it's a boring affair. Still, I enjoy seeing some of the performances at the Hall ceremonies. But that's about it. I don't need to see my fave bands get some validation from an institution that is designed to cause arguments while the criteria constantly shifts around. If my bands get in, great. If not, I'm fine too. I suspect it depends on how meaningful it is to the artists, that is what takes precedence. They certainly don't care about my preferences or wishes. after all, it's their lives and careers, and maybe some of them want or need to feel that they mattered after all.

Which is why (among other reasons) that say the Stone Roses will never get in, the Dolls won't (heck, Thunders won't), I tend to doubt that Joy Division will etc. Do you really think the New York Dolls and Joy Division won't ever get in? That would be a shame...

don't forget bryan adams. geeeeezus, who cares about a monument to the popularity? the mats are a rock and roll band, who are among the most influential we've known. the stumble-bums require no need of shill palace recognition. lake erie's infested enough. Just put 'em all in there. Who gives a fu(k. Put Bieber and Vanilla Ice in there too.

some do it better than others...
you like what you like...I don't take the Hall too seriously after the pioneers have been recognized. Seems like it's designed to spark these college dorm debates. But I do like seeing some of the performances, though.

Happy to see Bon Jovi NOT get their nomination once again, despite selling millions and millions of records. Who??? Still love that story of him dissing the Mats and his indignant letter to Musician magazine, "How can the Replacements be the best band of the 80s when I've never even heard of them?" For a guy in the industry, seems like JBJ sure wasn't up on what was going on around him, then! Maybe all those millions of dollars rolling into his bank account left him disinterested in what the rest of the music world was doing, who knows?

Maybe all those millions of dollars rolling into his bank account left him disinterested in what the rest of the music world was doing, who knows? Yeah, I suppose, it's odd for someone in the industry to be that oblivious to them. I'm sure there were tons of industry people who never heard them and didn't know much about them, but by the time DTAS was coming out, I'd suspect most people had at least heard the name. They'd been on SNL and in Rolling Stone a few times by then. What I always found really odd was that he actually said it on the record. It makes him look like more of an out of touch douche than it implicates the magazine or the band. You'd think with all his success, attention to image, and experience with the press that he'd have the sense to think about how that might be perceived before saying it publicly. Unless, of course, it wasn't really meant for public ears/eyes.

I haven't been on this site in some time, but I see each year the RRHOF elicits the same types of comments... who did, who didn't, who should, who shouldn't, not rock n roll, not popular, too popular, it's stupid to have it, etc. It's subjective of whoever selects the inductees and other than recognizing achievement it certainly gets some lively discussions going.

don't forget bryan adams. Easy there, big fella. I'll take Bryan Adams over Ryan Adams any day... hmmmm. i'll disagree completely. difficult and self-absorbed as Ryan might sometimes be, there's no denying he's written some gripping songs. heck, last year's "Ryan Adams" was mean, nasty and focused. and there's no denying these either, in no particular order: "Come Pick Me Up." "Tennessee Sucks." "Jesus (Don't Touch My Baby)" "La Cienega Just Smiled." ... perhaps my favorite. "When Will You Come Back Home." just because Ryan dissed Paul and the 'Mats in Minneapolis (or so, i believe that was the case), big deal.

What the hell happened? I thought you and I disagreed about everything...But Ryan Adams is an incredibly prolific songwriter who has spanned so many genres that I have to think if you've never found anything at all that you thought was at least "o.k", you've either never really listened to him, or just have some kinda personal bias towards him...I guess there are some old school Mats fans that are pissed off that he dared disparage Paul, but didn't Paul kinda start that whole thing? My understanding is that Ryan had consistently cited Paul as one of his favorite artists and main influences, until, for whatever contrary reason, Paul felt compelled to make some flippant comment about "kicking his teeth down his throat"...I think it hurt the guy, and he didn't really know how to react other than to make some drunken juvenile comments in kind...That's what classic Paul would have done, right? Ryan Adams has so much material that I've probably only heard about a quarter of it, and I haven't come across anything yet that wasn't just stellar...Maybe the other three-fourths are garbage, but I kinda doubt it...

Ryan Adams hasn't always been great at keeping his mouth shut, his timing hasn't always been the best, and he's come off as a real dick from time to time over the years (both publicly and not). You could probably say the same about Paul or any number of our favorite rock and roll guys if you had all the facts in front of you. I also think his catalog has suffered a little from a quantity vs quality issue. I haven't been able to hang with every direction he's explored. Still - I will always give his records a chance. When the dude is firing he has my ear. Those first 2 Whiskeytown records and probably 70% of his solo stuff has been some of my favorite music from the time I first heard it.

Well, if Ryan Adams is the topic, I think it's only fair to suggest that Pauls ultimate diss to Ryan Adams is the fact that he's now bangin' and playin' with Ryan's ex fiancee Juliana Hatfield.

At the risk of revisiting the ongoing debate about its legitimacy, ethics, integrity, or common sense (or of pissing somebody off somebody by displaying my woeful ignorance of the state of Sam Moore's financial portfolio), the inductees for 2016 were announced: Deep Purple, the Steve Miller Band, Chicago, Cheap Trick, and N.W.A...

or of pissing somebody off somebody by displaying my woeful ignorance of the state of Sam Moore's financial portfolio Wow, you really need to get over that. That was months ago. And it bothered you so much that you even changed your avatar? Come on man, relax. I was never pissed about anything. It was a simple factual correction, and it was never meant to rile you up or bruise your ego. I apologize for upsetting you so much. Let's put it to rest.

At the moment, country seems to be the farthest thing from Ryan Adams's mind. He and his roots-rock band Whiskeytown are deep in the throes of "Not Home Anymore," and Adams is hunkered down on haunches, guitar slung across his shoulders, coaxing a sheet of feedback from his amp that blankets every square inch of Bill's Bar in Boston. Besides the decidedly uncountry wall-to-wall noise, Adams's just-woke-up tousle of shoulder-length hair and faint hint of eyeliner ringed around his lashes recalls not George Jones but Paul Westerberg.
"It's funny how much it all goes back to the Replacements," Adams explains when we're in the band's touring camper, the inside of which has been pinned with newly purchased postcards of the Rolling Stones and, uh, Poison. "I mean, listen to that song that was on their first single, `If Only You Were Lonely.' It's a beautiful country song." Sheer songwriting ability, he says, is "an important thing in this day and age of bands who say the chorus pedal is their sound. But I think things are changing. People want to get moved again."
