But with today's letters i would still have it right.

I get it that the whole thing is a joke, but "whore myself" is pretty harsh. What does that make us?

My guess at this point... I have always loved you Now I must whore myself The letters line up Not exactly the words of a man too thrilled or proud of what he's doing. I'm really not and I'm way past any stage of my life where I could be called a "fanboy", and I don't idolize my heroes anymore like they're superhuman. But I have a level where I'm very thankful to my heroes who helped me through my life. Paul Westerberg is one of those heroes. He didn't write music for me or to make a difference in my life but the truth is that he did and I'm really grateful that I discovered The Replacements and followed them and him for the last 30 years or so. And so that makes it really sad for me if this is his message and he means it. Not sad like I'm insulted or it's about me, because it's not about me just like it wasn't about me when he wrote those GREAT songs. But I hoped that Paul was getting some level of enjoyment and satistfaction out of life. All these years I figured that the reason he didn't have a Replacements reunion is that he wanted to do it under his own terms, "right", whatever that means to him. Paul is a gifted writer and performer who has made a difference in my life, he made it more liveable and enjoyable and yeah there were a couple of dark nights that he was part of what helped me to keep going and made me want to keep trying. Alright, thank you.

John, We're sort of in the same boat I think. For me, this tour lets me go back to some of the things I loved about my college years and living in Boston and seeing bands like the Replacements in a little club were things I'll always remember. Going to see the Pixies last year (who I saw open for Throwing Muses) lets me be a fanboy for one night and forget about the job and the kids and the mortgage and all of those things I have now that I'm a "grown up". I thank Paul and Tommy and the guys for what they are doing and I really hope they are getting something good out of this too. I'll spend tomorrow night bouncing around and singing and having a great f-in time and act like a kid again, even if its only for one night.

Alright, thank you. It is possible to at one time whore yourself out doing something your heart really isn't into, but at the same time, get some enjoyment out of it in the process. I don't think Paul really had much interest in the reunion, the nostalgia and the old songs, but pressure and money eventually won out. That doesn't mean he isn't having some fun here and there being part of the machine. Seems like everything we know about him over the last 10 years tells us he'd rather be home (2 of the 3 shows I've seen in the last couple weeks back this up). It's also not necessarily a reflection on life as much as it is about his relationship with the fans and the legacy of the band and his need to make a living. He's just trying to come to terms with it and bring us in on his mindset. There's something really awesome and personal about the message and the way he's delivering it to those of us who give a shit. It is sad in a way, but not surprising.

I think its one big joke. Probably shouldn't be taken to seriously. Maybe its a msg to his ex-wife in order to pay his alimony? Who knows?

I've said this before, but my reaction is much different than many of you. I never saw the Mats back in the prime so I have no fond college memories of seeing them. I only saw them for the first time ever, this current incarnation, in Boston last September. No Bob, no Slim. This was all I was going to get. And it was great, but it didn't evoke that special emotional response that many of you have and will have.
The songs are still awesome and mean something to me me, was great to see them live finally but nothing overly emotional. Afterall, all those songs are familiar, I've been listening to them for the last 30 years. And that's one thing I think Tommy mentioned in an interview, something about trying to get new material together, lest they fall into the oldies act territory.
I think if that's all they DID was play the hits in the next few years, then I would think it's jut a cash grab and Paul is going through the motions. And I just don't see them doing that in the next few years. And if he is going through the motions now, well, like it was said before, the man does not care much for touring.
The original impetus for this reunion was Slim's debilitating stroke anyway. As for his motivations to continue the reunion stuff? Well, we can speculate a lot about it but why dwell on that? Let's be happy they're playing together again. When the tour is over, who knows what will happen, if they'll ever tour again? So, enjoy what we have now
You're my latest last chance, my final hurrah this day went so fast barely even saw you ...
