New York is so f-ing awesome. Just went back in April, had a blast! Wish I had the coins for another trip just for this. Looks like the venue is deep in Queens, but luckily a subway stop not too far. Line-up looks rad. Would love to see Deer Tick play with them. Have fun, any one who goes!

Very excited by this but shocked at the venue capacity. 17,000 ?!?!
Gotta go. Let's have a meet-up in town before the show!

Haven't been back to NYC since '01, tempting as hell. Gotta finalize MN first, then....

Haven't been back to NYC since '01, tempting as hell. Gotta finalize MN first, then.... I checked hotel prices yesterday, holy. crap. I haven't stayed in a hotel (that wasn't for a work trip) in about 5 years. at that time, I was able to find a decent (not scary but not fancy) in midtown for about $200. That same place would be over $400 a night now. Basically, airfare to Mpls = One night in NYC. Crazy.

Kathy, I grew up in Bayside; it's about a 15 minute car ride to Forest Hills. It's a nice, safe area. There's a hotel, called the Adria, on Northern Blvd, in Bayside; I think it's about $150 a night. It's about a 10 minute walk to the LIRR. There is also tons of bars and restaurants in Bayside, near the hotel, on Bell Blvd. I just wanted to let anyone know before the tickets go on sale Saturday. That's great, thanks! I was thinking that staying Queens migth be a good alternative to a $400 hotel in Manhattan but wasn't sure exactly where would be good. awesome tip

wow, this sounds tempting too...and much closer for me. I have relatives in Queens, but I dunno if I want to stay with them. I am still on for Boston though, and NYC is just an added bonus But yeah, staying in Manhattan? Ugh, too expensive! Besides, the best pizza slices aren't in Manhattan...

I never imagined it costing so much (4-5x more than I figured) + airfair/travel to get there. I am definitely going to hit up on a few friends who live in the city and see if they have a couch -or- even a a spare 6'2 the 3' space on their floor VS paying those kinds of exorbitant rates just to see the 'Mats and having another incredible time in NYC., TO DEF. BE FVCKING CONT.

It's very strange - found a hotel that seemed good, it was $220/night, near Penn Station. When I put in Sept dates, the rate went up to $455. And that type of increase held for every hotel in Manhattan that I checked. Staying in Queens seems like the only reasonable option, with a decent hotel around $200 and as long as you stay near public transportation, getting to the venue shouldn't be in issue. Plus the hotels in Queens have FREE parking! So barring a lottery windfall, Queens, here I come.

Much better pizza slices than Manhattan. I got relatives who live near the end of the 7 Line in Flushing and there is a pizza joint right when you come up out of the subway. hadn't been there in years, but can't see it going away. It's called Lucia's. otherwise, the best pizza I've had in Manhattan was in the West Village, Joe's Pizza on Carmine Street.

Lucia's, from what I remember, is pretty good. There used to be a great Pizza Place, in Flushing, back in the 70s/80s, called Gloria's. I heard the owners opened a new place in Forest Hills, a few years ago. I think the best pizza in Queens, is Amore's in Downtown Flushing; they have crispy crust pizza, with really good sauce. I think the next best is Peppino's, in Woodside, downstairs from the 7 Subway train (61st Street) & LIRR; their Grandma's Pizza is great. On Bell Blvd, in Bayside, most people love VIP Pizza, but I think it's always been overrated.

Haven't been to Flushing in over 10 years now and that was only an overnight trip too. But Gloria's sounds real familiar. I don't remember much of my weekend trips to Flushing to see relatives when I was like 12 or 13 because we didn't go out much. Pizza in DC is horrible! There are maybe like 2 or 3 places that are decent but pricey and they don't sell slices, they're like sit down restaurants. but yeah, I miss the crispy crust, the slight char of the underside of the slice. In DC too many places have slices that are too thick for my tastes, too much bread and lousy cheese to sauce ratio. And I don;'t know of any places in DC that has grandma pizza.... A lot has changed in Flushing since I was a kid...the last time I was there, I went looking for this Irish bar on Roosevelt (?), it could have been on Main, and it wasn't there. Lots of Asian places, which I don't mind, but it's too bad the Irish bar is now like some Indian market or store or something. I hope I can make it to this gig, it would be fun to visit NYC again. And get a slice!
