I can see both sides of the debate. I'm beyond happy that I went to two of the Riot Fest shows despite the travel costs, shitty bands, horrible logistics/planning, & weather. I bought a Coachella ticket but then sold it since it is an insanely expensive festival these days. I weighed the pros/cons & decided it's just not really worth it for me, personally. If Riot Fest Denver is the last 'Mats show I see... I can live with that. That show was absolutely fucking insane & having nothing but a rail between me & The 'Mats was a dream come true. We all gotta do what makes us happy. Still hoping the 'Mats play this festival on the Saturday so I can, hopefully, make it out there. Spent time in Louisville/KY in June & August last year & the weather wasn't as horrid as I thought it'd be. At least it seems like a cool setting right in Louisville rather than a dustfuck like the "Denver" Riot Fest. Also hoping beyond reason that The 'Mats might do a secret gig in the lull between Coachella weekends or that they'll play in Minneapolis so I can make the pilgrimage. But I'm fully aware that these are crazy long shots.

BethD. You're 2 favorite bands @ Coachella? Who is the other one. Only so I can say "THAT band?? But they suck!" And then hijack the page.

The only thing keeping me from going to this is I don't wanna road trip it alone. So, if anyone is interested let me know. We can bring lots of little Debbie cakes, our k-tel 8 tracks and our favorite stuffed animals (one each so there isn't overcrowding).

Heh...I like Arcade Fire...A lot...Never thought much of Queens of the Stone Age... To each his own! It's just funny how different people's tastes can be...So many times that I had a friend who shared an interest in a lot of the same bands, so I'd suggest: "You oughtta listen to these guys; I think you'll like them..." If they were polite, they'd never say anything...If they were direct, they'd say: "What are you talking about? This is awful!"

I'm lukewarm on both bands. Well, already got the weekend of July 18 off. Hotels are filling fast! I'm just going to get a VIP ticket for the one night. I get to treat myself to one music fest a year. I'm not going to wait around for them to play closer to home. I've never been to Louisville, but it looks like a cool mid-sized town. And it doesn't look like it will be as crazy as a Lolla. Any thoughts on them doing Riot again this year? Man, I love Toronto!

Guys and Gals, everywhere in July will be hot. Forecastle takes that all into consideration and there will be lots of misting stations everywhere on the gounds. Waterfront park in the Ville is just a very cool location right on the Ohio river. The grounds are taken care of meticulously. The sound systems are absolutely first class. You are in the middle of the entertainment district so lots of bars and restaurants within 0-4 miles from the venue. You can get a hotel room for a decent price and sleep in a nice air conditioned room and get a shower when you need it. Plus, a big plus, you're in the home of Horse Racing (Churchill Downs), baseball (Louisville Slugger) and BOURBON DAMNIT!!!! Louisville is a laid back town with a huge arts community so jump on in, the waters just fine.

Thank You Louisville Chamber of Commerce! How is the public trans? I'm noticing hotels a little farther out of the downtown are considerable cheaper? Also any cool record/vintage clothing/book stores there?

timsch thanks so much! You're way better than Fodor's guides. Sure hope I'll run into you that weekend. We can hit the indie clubs and the places for the "gentlemen".

Shit. I Have to pick Louisville or Montreal. Louisville gets points because its closer to home, I like the lineup better and I've never been there before. Montreal gets points because it's fucking Montreal, bleachers! And that town is the shizlit. But it will be a longer travel time. Curse you, God! Why must you make me play this cruel game of Sophie's Choice?!!? Does it amuse you to torment me?!??!! Cursed, wretched, all-seeing bearded being!!!

Forecastle announces lineup Tuesday April 1 and tix on sale Friday April 4. I'm really hopin' for Sunday with Band of Horses, Hurray for the Riff Raff and Jenny Lewis. I'm thinking since it's a festival I can safely see Jenny and not break the restraining order.

Aw, fuckit. I'm pretty sure I can't do Montreal. Which is sad bc I loves me some French-Canadian hookers. Insert sad face. So I did book a hotel for Louisville and am going to get a day ticket for whenever they play. Any1 thinking about road trippin' let me know. As always, ass, gas, or grass, nobody rides for free.
