Hi guys, i'm from Argentina and i discovered the mats about 6 years ago, and from that moment, there was not a single day that i didnt listen to them.
Always dreamed to see at least Westerberg solo during some trip (i even thought of going to Minneapolis just to see that) but the shocking news of this reunion, is much much more than anything i ever dreamed. But i couldn't afford a ticket plane to USA or tickets to the festival, so i sold my car, and some other stuff (guitars, etc) to fullfill my dream. Now its done, im going to Chicago (which by the way i also dreamed to go there as i am a blues fan too)...
Many people here in argentina were kinda impressed when i told them what i was going to do in chicago as the mats are not a popular band here at all("who the fuck are the replacements, you sold your car for that?!") . I mean, there are very very few fans here. In fact, i went to a Guns n Roses gig here in Buenos Aires a couple of years ago, just to see Tommy Stinson playing, cos i thought it was going to be the only chance of seeing one of them in my life.
I dont give a fuck what they say to me, since im going to see The Replacements...
see you there folks!!

"I drink a great big whiskey to you"...I'm going to the Toronto show and trying to rearrange some work travel plans (damn work gets in the way of everything) to make the Chicago show. If I pull it off and make it to the Chicago show I too will buy you and drink! Well played...enjoy the show.

Great story, maiden1982! It would be cool to see you write a story or book and/or make a movie about your Chicago 'Mats experience!

Thanks everybody, i know that there are people from all countries going there and making all kind of efforts just to see the mats. You can buy a car (if you have the money) at any time, but this gig is once in a lifetime. I couldnt go to disneyland when i was a kid to see some guy in a mickey mouse disguise, but now i can go to chicago to see the real Paul Westerberg instead. A real deal to me!!

Seriously love this story, and agree that'd make a great short story, book, movie, something...

Haha, funny that you mention Disneyland, because my coworker was just telling how she is going to take her kid to Disneyland. That wasnt the thing in my childhood also. But now I that Im adult theres nobody to tell me how I spend my hard earned money! I dont know what I wanted when I was a kid (maybe Mickey Mouse also), but when I was a teenager All I wanted to was to see some bands! Mostly bands that had broken up. I never thought I bands like RATM, Alice In Chain, Refused and now The fucking Replacements so thank god (I dont believe in god, but of course Im talking about PaulW)for reunions!

maiden1982, you and your story are the quintessence of what all of us 'Mats fans aim for in our lives...BRAVO, my friend!
Have a great time, write about it, takes massive amounts of...photos and please report back here for those of us living vicariously through those of you fortunate enough to make these shows.

Not a bad idea of making a mini book of this! well sami, i always liked bands that were already broken up.. Couldnt saw RAmones, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin... But i saw bands like Pixies, Faith no more and Dinosaur Jr. that reunited and i never expected to come to Argentina and they did, but they are kinda popular here... But Westerberg coming to Argentina, that's hardly impossible, they never toured in southmerica... i also thank God for this chance it's kinda like a reward after years of listening to the mats when (almost) nobody else did here, no songs of them on the radio, not a single article of them in the rock mags...
PS: I forgot to mention a little funny story bout Westerberg. a few years ago i took singing lessons with a very good teacher, mainly cos i wanted to sing mats and paul's solo songs, so i showed paul's cover of "these days" by jackson browne cos i wanted to sing that one (is a live version), and she told me "ok, lets work this song , but let me tell you that this singer is not the best example to follow as he starts singing in a wrong key and a voice like he has a hangover" ... I laughed and said "well , he's the main reason why im here taking this lessons"... a typical Replacement's situation ...

Im pretty happy that Im living the life the time that Im living (well is there anything else that I can do)...but if theres one thing thad id like to be born earlier its Nirvana! Thats it. And talking about reunions. RATM havent come to Finland in 13 and I had to fly to London to see them. But I have no regrets about that. P.S: Sorry that Im rambling, but I just want you (or anybody) to know that I have nothing against anybody believing God. Its just not my thing and it will stay that way ...

You have demonstrated an incredible loyalty and sacrifice to see them and you are to be commended for doing so. I hope the show and experience is as incredible as it has been in your wildest dreams. I would think that Paul and Tommy would be very much appreciative and impressed with your decision. Rock on.... PS, I have traveled around South America a little bit, but I have not been to Argentina, I hear it's an incredible place.

"a voice like he has a hangover"
Too funny! Awesome story. You've got another drink coming your way if we meet in Chicago.
PS, One of my favorite restaurants here in NYC is an Argentinian place. They have great steaks, tasty empanadas, and potent mojitos!

Sami: I believe in God in very particular way, not the God that is in the bible or religious books, but in a way that there's something greater that i dont know how to call it so i call it God. I admire your travels to see favourite bands too, i dont know much bout finland.
Freerider:;Thnks, Argentina is a great place to visit, got a lot of things and a diversity of incredible places
BronxTeacher: Thats what the mats mean to me. Thanks, argentinian steak and BBQ is really great, also empanadas... mojito i think is from cuba, argentinian wine is very famous too. After Chicago in spending some days in NYC before returnig to argentina, in part cos im a big Ramones fan and always wanted to go there (but i think theres not much of a punk scene anymore)
Towilmusic: Thanks, im sure there are a lot of people like me or Sami travelling from all countries, this is what rocknroll means to me. Yes ill try to write some chronic bout the trip.

Still would like to go, but its bit far away so we chose Minneapolis of course . I think 8 hour bus trip is worth it. And yeah there are lot of people traveling especially in Europe to see bands. Finland is kinda hard, because its here behind the fucking baltic sea and you just cant jump on train like in central Europe. But as long as I got a job, no car(I didnt sold it ), no childrens, no pets or anything and patient to save money I can go somewhere and not be stuck in here...

Yes, people going from everywhere, this means the Mats finally succeded, after years of being underrated by the media, the music is so good that the world is now understanding them (and in part, thanks to internet for making their music available at any place)
