Well, apparently Lou Reed and Metallica have been recording an album together, which means that anything at all is possible. So who's your dream PW collaborator?
I think I said it in another thread, but my pick is J Mascis, a fellow aging rocker who's figured out how to improve with age and still sound fresh and original. I think he would bring a Bob Stinsonesque level of powerful and emotive playing that could give Paul the kick in the pants that he needs. And like Paul, Mascis is a master of melodies that hit that achey bittersweet spot without ever sounding cheesy.

Lou and Metallica- that sounds interesting!
My dream PW collaboration? Paul with Keith Richards and X-pensive winos!

I'm actually surprised Paul is not on that Ray Davies duet album.

Paul with Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams III, Paul Simon, Pete Townshend, or Willie Nelson.

Bob Pollard but can't imagine what they would come up with...live.
For a record, maybe Elvis C as he likes to work with others and the word play might be something to behold.

Lucinda Williams would be cool. It would be cool to have a Stereo/Mono duets type album where he could record some rockers with Joan Jett(Mono) and some Achin' To Be type songs with Lucinda(Stereo).

From what I understand about the Lou/Metallica thing, they are all Lou songs, with Lou doing all the vocals, and Metallica providing arrangements and basically just acting as a backup band. I think something like this would be the ideal situation for Paul. An existing band that could follow his lead while adding their own unique flavor. I know Cheap Trick and Green Day have mentioned in the past that they would be up for this, but my vote would still have to be for Dinosaur Jr. I'm having a hard time coming up with another band that I'd like to hear with Paul.

How about Paul backed up by the Foo-fighters?

Paul and The B-52's would be a train wreck I'd buy a ticket for.

2nd on Paul and B52s.
Not what you're looking for but it is unlikely. I'd like to see Jonathan Richman cover the Art Brut song "The Replacements"

Paul and Elton John. Elton has always been a fan of sad songs because "sad songs say so much". Nobody sings a sad song quite like Paul. Absolutely eve! Elton has worked with Ryan Adams and Brandi Carlile, both of them among my favorite artists. It would be great to hear PW & Elton cover each other's material and even write some new stuff together.

I had never really considered it before, but based on what's being discussed in the Steve Earle thread I think that would be a potentially dynamic combination. Not sure how the egos would jibe, though... Steve seems like a pretty unrelenting, hard-driving dude to me.

Ok so it is supposed to be Unlikely.. so by far the best idea is Paul and The B52's haha I love that one.
Unlikely: Paul & Cee Lo? Paul and KMFDM.
Along the lines of the thread though.. I think I have stated before that I'd love to see Amiee Mann and Paul do a few songs Jackson Browne perhaps? Leon Redbone?

Merle Haggard Jerry Lee Lewis A Jerry Lee Lewis collaboration would be awesome! I‘d like to hear them do “Watching The River Flow”, a song Dylan wrote with The Killer in mind.
