I stumbled across this link. It's a Guns and Roses fan site, this link takes you to a discussion on Tommy's shows. It's intersting hearing Guns and Roses fans getting excited about the shows and the possiblity of Paul showing up similar to this site. www.heretodaygonetohell.com/board/index.php?topic=61948.0Guns 'N Roses still has fans?

Raw notes from his interview on WMSE today: Tom Stinson
I had a good night's rest last night. John's got a very nice lazyboy. (John Phillip (ex-Benjamins), drummer.)
DJ: we both like music TS: sometimes. today i do
TS: my brother pretty much bullied me into it and after a while it kind of took i played baritone sax for a minute upright bass for a minute i tried to sing for a minute By the time my brother showed me how to play the bass, I'd already been to jail 3 times.
DJ: PTMM- Alex Chilton influence TS: REM, us, a bunch of the bands of that era sparked some light on that.
DJ: 91 farewell tour - Chicago TS: I don't remember that being out with a bang. I remember it more being a quiet thud.
DJ: Mats Best of CD TS: A couple extra songs on that. It was kind of fun. We did it really quickly at a little studio in Mpls called Flower Studio. A couple songs that Paul had that he thought could have been replacements
DJ: Reunion? TS: Yeah, we consider it all the time. For all intents and purposes we never really broke up. ... That door's always open. ... If the time should come where it would seem like the right time we would do it.
TS: I moved to Hudson NY recently.
DJ: 2004 VGH CD where did the name come from TS: Village People Gorillaz Motorhead
(plays a new Tommy song, kinda Stonesy song)
DJ: Bash and Pop name? TS: NY radio station contest named it I can't believe that was 25 years ago, that was a long time ago. I was just 26 or something.
DJ: (She said she heard Loose Ends, thought it was Mats) TS: I got a lot of compliments out of that record. Sounded great, was a fun record to make.
DJ: B&P what happened? TS: I got it going for a while and it just didn't, … my midlife crisis that was happening at that time. Try to keep a band together, pay people ... (eventually) Perfect, Why would I still call this that (B&P)? We had a record all ready to come out ... The record company guy said something to the effect of I don't hear a hit ... I auditioned with GNR on a lark (my friend Josh Freese on drums). I'm beat up, I'm tired ...
TS: About as ballsy a move as anybody had ever heard. (Axl restarting GNR)
TS: We do have similar (stories, he and Axl)
DJ: Very different fan bases (Mats/Tommy vs. GNR) TS: It's not that diff a fan base. I've had ppl all over the world who come up to me and ask me to sign Mats records. It is weird but it happens.
DJ: Arenas? TS: It wasn't really all that strange a thing. At the end Mats playing really big venues. …
DJ: Your book? TS: I'm not actually sure I want to write it. Bob Mehr's working on one about the Mats, I've talked to him. ... There's a lot more to my book than just the replacements
DJ: Does it bother you when ppl bombard with mats questions? TS: Not really. I don't really have airs about any of it.
TS: If I got a nickel (for every band that says they're influenced by the Mats), I'd have a dollar.
DJ: Does Axl rock out to the replacements TS: No.
TS: He told a story, he went to see one of our shows in LA. He didn't finish by saying I really liked you guys. ... He also knows I had a similar reaction to Guns. We had mutual respect. At the time the whole thing seemed pretty punk rock to me.
DJ: Soul Asylum too, how do you juggle all of these bands? TS: I like to work I like to keep moving. my fiance gets really annoyed with how i'm always doing something … I gotta play music to eat, both figuratively speaking and literally.
TS: (new band) This was sort of a mad experiment, this one here with John and Tim. Mike Gent from the Figgs was going to be around. Bennie Pearlstein my mgr right here … If I can fit it in there's gonna be pockets of time when I can do shows 6-9 months. (Current solo band) A loose rnr band, but it'll be good.
DJ: SA all in MPLS? TS: No, there's one that's about to defect that's still up in Mpls. No, Michael Bland is still up in Mpls. This summer I'll be playing more shows with them, solo shows, residency in NYC in Aug, .... I'm going to be everywhere this summer. (oughts) clone my sorry self.
DJ: Next song TS: "Meant to Be" My fiance Emily Roberts is featured on background vocals. (thought something was missing) Well that (her vocals) was what was missing.
-----
DJ: one last thing, possibly hear music at show from b&p, perfect? I heard you play covers. TS: I DID. (play covers) As I look back, there might be a cover in there tomorrow. I had limited time to (rehearse). About an hour set ... Stick to all my stuff ... Concentrate on my new record, see if these guys are going to work out
DJ: Haiti TS: School for abandoned and homeless kids I got involved with it b/c I saw just how bad things were after the earthquake I found a friend who had a friend … We raised over $50K on an auction I did. I probably will do another one this year. We're working on a clothing line that the students … can make.
Q. You do sleep, right? A. I do, sometimes. I could use a 36 hour day, but I only get the 24 hour.
I think I'm going to go have a beer and do it again.
tommystinson.com will be updated more often now that I'm doing stuff
I'm a Twit. I tweet once in a while b/c once in a while some of the things
When I'm traveling more …
TS: Young Paris, young hip hop singer, I adore him, I got him featured in my new one, doing a little dancing for me. Check it out.
TS: You're gonna see t shirts. I don't have my old records to sell. The labels They will not give them back and they will not put them out. This one, I'll always be able to sell them.
DJ: You're a pretty nice guy. TS: Thank you. I work very hard at that. I used to be a prick.
(Next show, blues, plays original version of There's Good Rockin' Tonight at Tommy's request)

It was a decent interview. Good mix of Replacements/Guns/SA & solo talk.
The 2 new songs were killer. I liked `em more than anthing I've heard from either him or Paul in some time. Sounds like it's gonna be a rockin' record.

Alright, I am trying my best not to let this get me all worked up: Of course, it wasn't all that long ago that Stinson got together with Paul Westerberg and Chris Mars to cut a couple of "new" 'Mats songs, or that he and Westerberg "messed around" in the studio. "He might brave the elements; you never know with that guy," comes the wry response. As a matter of fact, the two are in touch pretty regularly. "We were never that far [apart]. We could talk once a year and still be pretty in touch with each other. It's good like that." www.citypages.com/2011-05-18/music/tommy-stinson-returns-to-first-avenue-for-one-night/GAH! I have never gotten to see PW play live, as I started listening after he stopped doing shows. I am excited to see Tommy's show, even if it's just that...but I will fucking levitate if there is even a HINT of Westerberg.

What Tommy said about not playing covers because his group had only practiced an hour's worth of material made me think no about PW. But then, that wouldn't be a practiced number anyhow.

Well, I'm not getting my hopes up...but it's sort of like when you buy a lottery ticket--half of the fun is thinking about what you would do if you won.

Anyone got a link to listen to the new songs? There should be two or three in the archived interview recording from WMSE. I think they said they hadn't been played before on air. It was Wednesday, at the end of the show: wmse.org/archive/new.php?dow=Wed&hour=123

Ouch... giggly fan-girls shouldn't do interviews. The songs sound great, though.

I drove down to Minneapolis for Record Store Day and actually won one of the prize draws at the Electric Fetus while i was there. Among the prizes I had to choose from was a whole pile of concert tickets, including the Tommy show. I wept openly knowing I couldn't make a return trip, took a signed Jayhawks album instead and stole a Tommy gig poster off the wall. Have fun for me, kids.
