I think what made the Dec 87 show bad was there was a lot of space inbetween some of the songs so the set didnt really run together plus they just didnt seem to care about anything. I could have sworn that Westerberg said at the beginning of the show that they sucked last time but would be even worse for this show, I guess I was wrong as I couldnt find it on the tape. I still have posters of these gigs as well.
I'll get all my masters transfered digitally sometime but please patient as I have a few people waiting on tons of other band gigs I recorded for a long time. If anybody has a suggestion for software I should be using that is quick and painless I would love to hear as I was using a really old version of soundforge when I did most in 2002.
I also thought I traded these to John Loughney then so they might be avail and will contact him.
I have the following masters which some of them are already out there being traded, namely the 85 shows or other peoples versions of the gigs
Portland - 85, Eugene 85 (both incomplete but have seen them on other peoples lists)
Portland 87 x 2 shows - might have played the Ledge at the first one of these
Maxwells Hoboken 89 - I think a roadie was playing drums for them at this secret show
Marquee London April 16 91 - If memory holds well I think they did two nights of which I have one master and my friend recorded the other night on the 15th of April
A friend of mine video taped the London, Scala Westerberg show I was at about 6 years ago which I should be able to get if it is not out there already. I could have done without all the fans on stage singing along but otherwise a good show and the last time I have seen Paul.
Just a side note: I remember Portland press at that time took itself far to seriously. The best one was the reviewer from the Oregonian, John Wenderborn, a known boozer whom would often make up song titles in reviews when he didnt know what they were. He was eventually fired for "reviewing" a show that had been cancelled on the evening and he hadn't bothered to go, too bad he didnt have the net back then. Would love to see those Mats reviews from 87
