That's a great story! I never run into any Mats or Paul fans so it always seems like there isn't any community of fans around. But it's good to be reminded that they are out there.

Same here, FreeRider. I've long been puzzled by how few of us there seem to be. Maybe it's just that we're just well dispersed!

About 2006, i was working at an Old Navy outlet. For one month the in-store CD featured "I Will Dare". That same CD also had "Lost" by the Meat Puppets and a couple of New York Dolls songs. Usually the instore CDs were crappy top 40, so for that one month i almost enjoyed working there.

No doubt someone has already mention this as it is from an episode that aired 8 years ago, but I watched the Psyche episode "An Evening With Mr. Yang" for the first time tonight and the last song playing at the end of the show was "Within Your Reach". Pretty apt too, as the episode was about a serial killer obsessed with Shawn and also featured Shawn's obsession with the girl from high school that got away...nice way to tie it all together Mr. Franks.

I took a photo of a "The Replacements - The Sire Years" poster as seen though the window of a record store . . . right above a dumpster. I thought it was pretty funny. I just made it my avatar here.
Also, Jim Dickinson (producer of Pleased to Meet Me, Big Star's Third, and many others and also a session musician for Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, and many others) wrote a memoir. It's called "I'm Just Dead, I'm Not Gone..." I ordered it online a few days ago but have not received it yet. I'd be surprised if it didn't have some good Replacements stories in there.

West of Boston, in a parking lot, I saw a red late-model Ford hybrid-type car with the license plate "MATS" on it.
Ha, I said, probably some guy named Mat's car.
As I was walking by, I glanced inside, and on the front seat were CDs of Stereo/Mono, L.A.M.F., a Flat Duo Jets one, the first Hold Steady record, and peeking out from the bottom of the pile, Pleased to Meet Me.
I wanted to leave a note that said "Can I be your friend?"

Juliana Hatfield: 5 Albums That Changed My Life read.tidal.com/article/juliana-hatfield-5-records-that-changed-my-life The Replacements: Let It BeIt wasn’t that all the songs were so great. Even “Sixteen Blue,” I’m not totally into that song. Like I can never relate to that one; it just seemed like Westerberg was trying to write a certain type of song, like a genre type of song. But what really struck me was something in Westerberg’s voice quality that seemed so recognizable to me. Some kind of yearning quality in his voice. I really connected with it and felt like I understood what he was trying to convey through the songs that weren’t always perfect songs. They’re announcing their flaws, saying, “We’re not perfect. Deal with it. Or celebrate it, even.” They’re celebrating imperfections. That was a cause I could really get behind. I think perfection is boring.

Celebration Rock podcast with Steve Hyden
He had Steve Gorman of the Black Crowes on....Lots of Replacements references in the beginning.. Hyden calls the Black Crowes a bridge band between GNR and the Repacments....
Gorman says the Blsck Crowes took their cue's from bands like the Replacements and their first incarnation was Replaements 101
But after he read Trouble Boys he realized they were like a minor league Replacements
Pretty cool.... as a Crowes fan I wouldn't have thought that....

Update on the Jim Dickinson memoir I mentioned above:
Interesting book but nothing about The Replacements. I don't think he finished the book. It ends around 1972 (just before the Big Star work he did).
Book = Recommended (but no Replacements stuff)

In January 2017, I got to see Bash & Pop at the First Ave in Minneapolis which was super fun. There was a little pre-show party and I got to meet and hug Tommy! Everyone else wanted selfies with him however, I felt a hug would be better. Great times with great people! Hope I get to see them again and I would also enjoy a solo Westerberg set or the I Don't Cares (of course I would prefer to see the Replacements but well...you know...not going to hold my breath or life on that hehe).
Have a pleasant holiday!

"Dyslexic Heart" playing over the muzak system at Safeway (grocery store) in Pleasant Hill, California. It was faint, but sounded a little different. Maybe off of the Singles reissue?

A new song by Matthew Ryan called 'Battle Born' is "dedicated to Joe Strummer and the lightning that the great songs and artists offer." Along with Joe there a few other of his heroes are mentioned in the song: Lu, Chrissie, Tom and Paul.
I'm quite sure that is Lucinda Williams, Chrissie Hynde, Tom Waits and Paul Westerberg.

I saw White Reaper last week in Chicago. Their bassist, Sam Wilkerson, bounced around the stage so much that my immediate thought was we should have his DNA tested for a relationship to Tommy Stinson.
