If you have a pair of headphones, intestinal fortitude and a spare 10 hours or so, feel free to start the lyrical deconstruction of 49:00. I'm hoping to take a crack at one or two 'interludes' tonight.
One of the lyrics that made me smile is the song about "Go visit your grandma" and Paul says something about "you could call your aunts but they are too busy with their pets" (extreme paraphrase) and given that Paul is not so much with the animal loving and one of Paul's sisters helps organize an animal rescue fundraiser each year in MPLS, I think that qualifies as a gentle zing. Hopefully for the sake of family unity, the "uncle" part of that song (which contains the immortal rhyme of "Uncle" with "Drunk, he'll") has less basis in fact. Afert all, as a very wise and devastaingly handsome man once said to me, "Kathy, Mick Jagger's mother was not actually a toothless bearded hag".

got a start on song no. 3, starting at around 7:04. got through most of it, but can't make out one or two items as noted in brackets. (something in my life?): had a dollar in his pocket, a tag inside his new used suit. felt like a --got (i think) davy crockett, never learned to take orders or salute. he's as thin as his checkbook but he could pass for a movie star. all the while he had that wrecked look. best looking man in the whole wide bar. be my best friend. i ain't seen him in a while. something in my life is missing. something in my life is missing. something in my life is missing him by a mile. he writes like a midwestern shakespeare, in a tiny perfect hand. it doesn't so much as move you as breaks your fall when you decide to land. be my best friend. i ain't seen him in a while. something in my life is missing. something in my life is missing. something in my life is missing him by a mile. you sit there in dead silence. you've got a friend who's real and true. no idle conversation. (can't make out this line) something in my life is missing. something in my life is missing. something in my life is missing him by a mile. he paints houses for money. he should be paid just to wake up. we (something something) just together and get sick from drinking from the same cup. love doesn't always wear a stupid smile. something in my life is missing. something in my life is missing. something in my life is missing him by a mile. something in my life is missing him by a mile. ------- oh, there's one near the end, i think it goes "i think i love you ..." s'that right?

Here's my favorite track (so far)...and these lyrics are clearly just a shot in the dark, especially the bridge. Is he saying "keep rising" or "Kentucky Rising"?
I ain't gonna stick around and spoil your morning Whatever the weather, I'll be walkin' Believe me, boy, these hills are gonna roll With or without her
Kentucky risin'
I ain't stickin' 'round to spoil your evening Whatever the weather, I'll be leaving Believe me, boy, these hills are gonna roll Without her
Kentucky risin'
Isn't there trouble, isn't there pain? Climbin' fence, folks, ridin' high again
Kentucky risin'
I won't stick around and spoil your morning Whatever the weather, baby, I'll be walkin' Just like me, just like me, just like her
Kentucky risin'

it's definitely "kentucky" something, risin? or riser? because it has a lyric in about getting up at 4 in the morning. then, at the end it sounds like he once says, "rider." good luck with that. firm on kentucky, though. i've also updated the "something in my life" lyrics. funny, was listening to the "single" for the sixth time today and, without really thinking, it hit me.

here's my best take at devil raised a good boy. i think it's pretty close, but i have no clue what he's saying after the solo (~16:25)!
Devil Raised a Good Boy (14:39-17:50) ===========================
flash like lightning burn like straw learned to live that night like a true outlaw
devil raised a good boy look out below devil raised a good boy pawn his soul
leather and lipstick downtown blues fool's all getting love that he couldn't use
so he open fire in london with his new york city band left 'em all for dead just like he planned
devil raised a good boy look out below devil raised a good boy pawn his soul devil raised a good boy look out below devil raised a good boy god bless his soul
? flop house ? ? woke up in pain ? raising cain this time to be paid
devil raised a good boy time to go devil raised a good boy look out below devil raised a good boy time to go devil raised a good boy
ah, good bye i'll miss you so tell johnny so!

folks: i think it's "Kentucky Riser" not risin'. riser fits better with the previous line that ends "without her." i know it's nit-picking, but since that seems to be the nut of the song, we should get it straight. my vote's "Riser"

Someone on Amazon.com gave the album only 4 stars because of the "leather and lipstick" line, heh. In another contest, I could see his/her point, but am I right in thinking this is about Johnny Thunders, which I think makes the line A-OK.

I didn't realize someone had already done this one so I sat down to do it today, I had a few different little things different. I love this song.

but what does it all mean? I don't know, but it's insanely catchy. I was singing "it's a one and five zeroes" to myself all day yesterday. Good stab at this, I think you got most of it, this one has some tough spots.

unreasonable living if you ever go to Hibbing _______ _____________'s home to the incomparable Miss sarah Grail In the blanks, he's saying "Grand Rapids" It's another small city on Minnesota's Iron Range, like Hibbing (south of there). The most famous person from Grand Rapids is Judy Garland. Not sure who Sarah Grail might be ... I couldn't make out the last name myself but that seems about right. Judy Garland's real name that she was called in her Grand Rapids girlhood was Frances Gumm. There might be someone else semifamous from there but I can't remember.

I take it back about Grand Rapids. Sounds more like "programmed rabbits"
Jazz vocalist Sarah Vaughn is the Sarah most likely to be called "incomparable" (there's an LP by that name: The Incomparable Sarah Vaughn)
Although the mention of a Sarah in such close proximity to Hibbing is still very redolent of Dylan
