I know it's highly unlikely that there were pictures taken in Orlando (HOB Bastids) but if anyone has any pictures from Charleston or Orlando where Paul plays his Wal-Mat guitar, can you send me a PM? I'm trying to track down a picture of that specific guitar. Which is red. Not the red one with "ill" sticker on it though. Since he said he bought the guitar in SC, I'm thinking it was only used at the last 2 shows.
Thanks!

I thought he mentioned it in Atlanta too - said it was the best guitar ever and he only paid $300 for it at Wal-Mart. He was being sarcastic. There is a picture of it, I believe, within the Atlanta thread that I started, I'll try to post the link here: www.postcardfromhell.com/gallery/Westerberg-AtL/P5061314

That does look like it. In Orlando he said it cost $159. So yeah it gets a bit exaggerated everytime.

I'm pretty sure he said at least $200, but by the time he broke it out, I was a little tipsy, so who knows, I'm probably not remembering it right.
There's another pic or 2 in that same Atlanta thread of Kevin playing it at the end.
Looks like a good guitar to smash the hell out of onstage!

Oh I wasn't implying that you were exaggerating, but that Paul probably was exaggerating on the cheapness of this guitar. I yelled "did it come in a box" but I don't think anyone heard. I've seen those damn guitar in a box kits and it does leave me more than unsettled.
Thanks for the info JLMS

Thank you -- I thought it was bought in SC maybe it was NC and that's why he had it in Atlanta. Looks like there are a couple of pictures with him playing it. Mission accomplished - thanks!!

I remember in Orlando him saying that the guitar was $100-and-something-dollars, and that he'd probably have it for the rest of his life. I think this might have been shortly after he smashed the other guitar that was worth 10 times more.

Well this is funny. I was in Toys R Us last night and we were laughing at the 'guitars in a box' in the music section. The brand was First Act and the price was indeed $159.99. And I thought Wal-Mart was supposed to have lower prices! Tsk tsk...

Out of curiousity, I went to Toys R Us in Alpharetta, GA and bought the guitar for $179. So far I have been pleasantly surprised. It's a cheaply made guitar, but it stays in tune, doesn't have too much fret buzz, and it looks kinda cool. It sounds decent through my Marshall JTM60 combo amp, but definitely doesn't sound like a Gibson. It has a nice-feeling maple neck, a crappy-looking rosewood fingerboard, and two "ALNICO" humbuckers that sound okay. Overall, it's not bad to fiddle around with in the basement, and if the kids break the neck, it won't give me a heart attack.

My memory is hazy on the details, but I think one of the songs he ripped through on that guitar in Atlanta was "Knockin' On Mine". In any case, what he played rocked very hard & sounded incridible.

Well crap, I went out the day after the Covington show and bought an Epiphone Dot Studio (cheaper version of Paul's Gibson ES-335) to sound like him because it sounded good and wasn't too expensive. Now I have to go to Walmart.........

Quit knockin on mine!!
After hearing about Paul's love for this maligned guitar, and a good review in Guitar Player magazine, I decided to pick up one just to have a bang around instrument.
Toys 'R Us had one for $100, but I decided to stop by the local Wal-Mart to check their price. I got the last one on the shelf, for a mere......$75 dollars!!!!!!!
I hate to say it, but after years of buying many $500-$800 guitars from various makers, it blows many of them away from a "sonic" stand point. Think Angus Young Tone!
I'm looking to pick up a back up for this one soon!! I'm waiting for the one at Toys 'R Us to drop to $75 ;D
Paul knows his guit-fiddles!!

Even though I am only a hobby guitar player I don't think I could bring myself to play a guitar bought from walmart but you guys are making me rethink,I have been plunking away on a cheap les paul copy that now sadly has more dust than use. I bought my daughter a guitar from toys r us once but it was pink and played la bamba. Thankfully the batteries got lost.

I need to get a digital camera,I feel like we are the last family on gods once green earth that doesn't own one else I would take a nice snap of my Hoyer Les Paul copy. It is black,as all good guitars should be,it has five strings too I see,a trip to the music store is in order.

I remember back in '05/'06 I was a little under the influence and went to Walmart with some friends to pick up some DVD, and I looked and saw Paul's face on the side of a box and was like 'WTF?', I was completley in shock. I never saw one again, but it was just so crazy and unexpected. I woke up the next morning wondering if it really happened, I went back to Walmart and they were gone, I ended up finding out about em online just to confirm that I wasnt crazy.
