I admire your tenacity on this subject. I thought I'd Never Felt Like This Before. There is indeed a Pro-Eventually Militia operating in our midst, but all I remember is asking why that album sounded kinda mediocre and you more or less said cuz it is. Which I took as Gospel until this morning when I listened to it again ... that radio-ready sound just conjures up a vision of a different world where you might happen to hear a Westerberg song on the radio just by accident. I guess it also conjures up a world where PW watches rabbits in his yard, but you take the dull with the sharp.

Yeah, "flat," that's the word to describe it. "Eventually" conjures up a flat world. But where the radio reception is great, and all Paul all the time.

what's wrong with watching rabbits in your yard? would you rather he grab them by the bunny ears and do a helicoptor? "...all Paul, all the time." ? uh, I don't know about that, but I'm going to give Eventually another try. I'll really listen, and maybe something will click.

I thought 'Eventually' was a lot like the Replacements with a little techno thrown in.

I still really enjoy this album "You've had it with you" is one of my favourite solo tunes of his, but i think part of the problem is at a low level the entire album is just there and if you crank it right up it does have a whole other feel to it. that's just what i think anyway.

Eventually was my favorite PW solo album before Mono came out. Since then when I go back and listen to it I find myself skipping a lot of songs that I used to love.
But Love Untold, These are the Days, and Time Flies Tomorrow are still up at the top of my favorite Paul songs list.

I like Eventually. I might like it less had I not paid a whopping $4 for it.
Didn't we have a rousing discussion on this before?

I know I've said this before. I like Eventually. Well, I like parts of Eventually. I like the first part (i.e. the first five tracks). And I like the last part (but in this case, I mean just the last track). And I like Trumpet Clip (oh yeah, yeah).
can you diiiigg...

These Are The Days is worth 4 bucks alone. i would describe the album in a similar way. except that i would change the song. angels walk makes the album worthy all by itself.

well i'm an eventually fan also. david fricke in his rolling stone review described it as "poignant', which at the time i thought was spot on. it clearly stated that the mats weren't going to get back together in a hurry, particularly when paul stated in sacking brendan o'brien, "if i wanted to sound like the replacements, i'd fucking hire the replacements". though it doesn't sit together too well, some of it really displays a mastery of songwriting. btw, my favourite is once around the weekend and there's nothing wrong with watching rabbits in the yard. beats having to sweep the floor.

It's still probably my least favorite of his albums, but Love Untold still makes me tear up nearly every time and Trumpet Clip is a blast.
A lot of the songs on this album sounded great on the tour though. Once Around the Weekend, Angels Walk, and Century in particular.

century, love untold, these are the days, hide n seek are some of the best westerbeg songs...
but in my opinion...none of his albums pre mono/stereo hold a candle to thiese works..
come fele me tremble, mono, stereo, dead man shake..are untouchably beautiful..fucking perfect

A lot of the songs on this album sounded great on the tour though. Once Around the Weekend, Angels Walk, and Century in particular. I definitely agree there. There was a huge contrast between the live performances and the album. The album versions seemed really flat and uninspired by comparison. The live Century sounded like a whole new song. I'm betting that the same thing will happen when he plays his recent one-man-band recordings in a live real-band setting. There are a lot of good songs with cheesy production (2 Days Til Tomorrow, for instance) or godawful drumming (take your pick) that will most likely be completely transformed live. I'm also betting that he'll regain some of the footing he's lost in the vocals department once he has a live band behind him.

regain some of the footing he's lost in the vocals department in other words, get his foot out of his mouth? (no, I know what you mean)
