Thanks to Allen for sending in this email about the 'show' last night:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
I read about Paul playing the premier this morning and the Greek Theater is on my way home so I stopped by. You had to have a parking pass to even park but I, being familiar with the Greek and the surrounding Griffith Park, knew of an area where they let the picnickers and hikers park for free.

Got lucky, snagged a spot and was able to just walk into the main party area...all kids food (corn dogs, peanut and butter sandwiches Mac anc Cheese Etc...) and no booze of course.

Well who do I see walking around but Paul and Johnny (his son). I walked up and said hi, told him I crashed the party and was there just to see him. He smiled and said he was looking for Josh Freese and Josh's kid...they had gotten separated.

When time came to go into the theater I suddenly realized that you had to have a reserved seat ticket to get into the Theater to see the movie (and Paul). It took all of 3 minutes to get a ticket by asking people in line for an extra.

They started with Right to Arm Bears. It started off a little slow and ragged with Tommy's backing vocals buried in the mix but they pulled it together and had a nice trashy little ending.

Next up the best new song IMO Love You in the Fall. This started off hot and kept getting better. Paul and Tommy glancing at each other...Tommy giving a little smile...Josh pounding away...it was truly heaven.

But just when I thought that was gonna be it Paul says:

"We're gonna do one more song that's not on the soundtrack." He then dedicated the song to Bill Holdship and Chris Morris (noted music journalists and longtime Mats fans). When I heard the first notes of IOU I couldn't believe it! And boy did it rock. I'm telling ya Kathy, Paul is back better than ever. Looked and sounded great and you could see the enthusisium as they finished "IOU you nothing." You think this could his little sarcastic dig at Sony???

Anyway, Paul and the boys definitely didn't polish things up for this performance. All three songs had that live Westerberg edge to them. Even Tommy smiled a couple of time.

It's something I'll never forget. Lets hope he takes this show on the road!

That's an amazing feat of party crashing.. Paul had to have been as impressed as I!

Yes indeed! I think it is kind of fitting that Allen was just on his way home and decided to check it out.

I'm kind of surprised Paul allowed his son to be photographed.

Wow. I can't really say anything but wow. That's amazing and great pics.

I've never seen a picture of the Westerberg family before, that's pretty cool.

I agree it's cool to see a picture of the family. I mean, you hear so much about Johnny and all it's just cool. And the other pictures and just the whole thing. I think Nazareth summed it up best....WOW

I was just thinking that myself. Maybe Paul was folding laundry and thinking of the guitar design at the same time.
