It is not often a music fan is given a glimpse into how a superstar such as Grandpaboy is able to crank out such megahits as Psychopharmacology or Cleaning House. Listening to Grandpaboy’s Last Stand we hear how this legend manages to corral a diverse group of ragtag musicians into one cohesive unit to produce some of the finest music of the last decade.
Listening to the first part of this 35 minute session, one begins to worry that the liquor induced cursing and criticisms between Dracula, Twiddle, Puce, Grandpaboy, and others will threaten the completion of the project. But the boys are able to work it out and soon a calm, religious feeling overtakes the session…magic happens… a touching collaboration on “Save Elrod Puce”. Twiddle instigates a brawl that is short lived as they set aside their differences for the sake of the music. Next Grandpaboy treats us to two stirring versions of Mr. Cigarette, one hillbilly, one for normal people. I must admit a tear fell when I heard the lyric “loveless man’s goodnight kiss”. A new producer, Ron Regal, enters the session, with quite a revelation. He convinces Grandpaboy that his fans want to dance! What follows is a future classic that even Cher would envy, “Love You In Reverse”. Sadly, the big voice comes to take Grandpaboy away. Grandpaboy begins bargaining, swears off barbeque, and converts to White Castle.
On a personal note, if you enjoyed Cheech & Chong, you’re going to like this.

After listening to it a couple of times, I think Paul is either
a) a master of performance art b) somewhat (or a lot) schizophrenic c) on the sauce again or d) all of the above

It just might be d) all of the above!
I also get the feeling that, like squaw had said, we're getting a glimpse into the incredibly fertile and creative mind that Paul has....a man, alone in his basement, comes up with this "band" of characters, all talking over one another. Genius or partially insane/eccentric? Maybe for genius to exist, it has to function and process things in ways outside the norm, and therefore the eccentricities. And viva la difference. For if Paul's mind worked like most everyone else, well, we wouldn't get the great songs he's come up with.
Could b e that I'm overanalyzing and it's just one big goofy thing Paul's doing in his basement for fun. Listen to it for the humor! ("How many Replacements does it take to screw in a lightbulb?" )

Random thoughts: yes, it's nutty. The best thing about it, besides some of the humorous outbursts, comes at the 7:43 mark, "love you in reverse," version 1. sounds a lot like a soft boys song. of these various characters you speak of, i'm not familiar. he drops the proverbial f-bomb a lot and yes, it sounds like he may have knocked one or two back. It winds up with version 2 (the new order version) of love you in reverse after gpb or someone says "yer fans wanna dance, nuff said. make a racket." i think we'll be dissecting this for some time to come.

I wonder if this will have to be ceased and desisted like 49:00. Has anyone seen any artwork for this yet? I searched the Internet, but no luck.

I doubt he'll have to pay royalties because this is being billed as a free download with purchase of the vinyl. That's how companies get away with selling mixtapes. They say you get a free CD if you buy the tray card.

The tune is completely different but it sure sounds like it could have been "inspired" by Written In Reverse. Also, I think you done a good job on your track listing titles!

Mine ain't arrived, black or otherwise, but that sounds a bit like those snippets of Sun Studios chatter with Elvis and boys?

I think I missed out on this, and from what I've read, I'm not sure I'll lose any sleep over it.
But just reading this title made me smile: "Don't Shoot(or I'll Move)"

Yes....the 2 songs, solo acoustic, on the 7" are worth having for sure.
If anyone is looking for a turntable, you can find DJ style ones at Best Buy. They're not high end, but they play records and work just fine. You can also find inexpensive USB turntables at many computer superstores (microcenter, CompUSA, etc) that won't be much more than $100 and will go USB right into your PC. A nice entry-level turntable will start around $400. After spinning the Mr F single this morning, I am currently spinning Sugar's Beaster and it's sounding great!

First listen yesterday, and I definitely got a few smiles from this one.
The part where he says "tape's rolling" - a nice flashback to I Hate Music.
Paul's voice for the producer from New York.
Mr. Cigarette - what a great song. How funny that The Cigarettes do a song called Paul Westerberg, and now Paul writes one called Mr. Cigarette.
Love You In Reverse really has some potential (although probably not as a dance tune). Seems like, as with other snippets that we hope would be (or already were) developed into full-length songs, maybe Paul just gave up on them and he's clearing out the old tapes.
Really hoping that this isn't the only release we get this fall/winter.

Did learn that Dave Wagner and Steve Hunter played (uncredited) on Train Kept a Rollin for Aerosmith. Those two have an interesting history.
